Originally created for the Recorded Sound Reference Center for inclusion in their Music Reading and Listening Room’s permanent music collection at the Library of Congress after determining the historical significance because they had next to nothing in yodeling recordings and performances by an African American in their vast holdings, much less such a large volume of yodeling songs written by one person. Officially acquired by the Reference Center on 27 April 2007, Mike quickly designated his Yodel Song Archives as a special donation item only for verifiable music preservation organizations for display, listening, and educational purposes. This exciting 4-disc CD set containing 114 yodeling songs (full band, live, and acoustic) written and performed by Mike Johnson, Country Music’s No.1 Black Yodeler, includes an attractive 6-page Song Title Booklet. Songwriter of over 150 yodeling songs, Mike combines Jimmie Rodgers, Cowboy, and Swiss yodeling styles using single, double, and triple yodels to deliver some wonderful yodeling songs with and without lyrics, as well as on five yodeling CD albums hanging out amongst the 59 CDs that he’s produced between 1999 and 2022.
Performing Country Music since the late 1960s in multiple venues across the USA, Mike Johnson entered the annals of yodeling history with his inclusion in his Netherlands friend, Bart Plantenga’s 2012 “Yodel In Hi-Fi” his 2nd most definitive and detailed study of the world-wide origins and history of yodeling. Bart contacted Mike in 2005 shortly after “Yodel Ay-Ee-Oooo, The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World” his 1st yodeling book was published and became a Best Seller for Routledge publishing.
